Pencil.

For Mark.

This week, some pencil sketches for an ill-conceived project that was not to be. It was, however, a pleasure to work with Paul and Gaetan Brizzi on that occasion.

Those are some great concepts. Just like everything I've seen from you so far. I'm checking your blog for a couple of months now and I really admire your work...

Hey, Luc- thanks for posting these. I really like the perspective you chose for the viewer in the top piece- You're nearly at that rim, you're drawn in, want to be closer, see more. And the single whale (I'm not entirely sure, but since the piece is called Blowhole, it seems a good bet :), and the way he/she is underlit- Just a spectacular drawing overall. I'm exploring where I want to go in terms of narrative, maybe, if that's the right word, in my own work- And it's instructional to see how you've told more of the story from a different angle in the bottom piece. Another strong composition- I especially like the way the flow of the lights plays off the horizontals. Thanks for the link, too- I've added yours as well. All the best!

Hi Mark,
You're welcome. I decided to follow your suggestion and will be posting a whole bunch of pencil drawings in the next few days. They were done for a project with Paul and Gaetan Brizzi whose work I think you would very much enjoy. I hope you'll find my modest efforts in the medium diverting. Oh, and you guessed right...As will quickly become obvious, the story was about whales.
Cheers.

Yeah! I admire the weightless quality you have conferred on a very heavy creature.
Nice one Luc!

Hi Mac,
Something to do with a retelling of the 'Moby Dick' story. I'm always puzzled when people decide to adapt a classic of the litterature and fancy they'll improve on it by removing the fundamental premiss of the story. Disney's 'Hunchback' was a particularly egregious example of this.
