they are stunning, luc. the colors are so subtle, so much atmosphere. I have a favorite american artist -
e.martin hennings. they remind me of his work.

Wow...these are beautiful Luc....And you transfered a lot of the energy and mood from the gouache sketch straight over onto the oil.

I think I considered the oil version 'unfinished' at the time but never got around to do anything about it.

Thanks for the praises.
As you guessed right away, I was looking at the painters from the 'Taos School' at the time. Hennings was one of them but I think this piece was pretty directly inspired by the work of Ernst Blumenshein, another great painter of that group that included Irving Couse, Herbert Dunton, Joseph Henry Sharp.
Later, Nicholai Fechin and Georgia o'Keefe also elected to live in this small town in New Mexico.
