Beat Board.

One of the stages of visual development is the creation of a Beat Board. It is the closest thing to regular illustration that we do. The point is to create illustrations for every key moment (Beat) of the story. These are then collected on a board that is used to pitch the structure of the story. Work on the Beat Board, being part of the story process, is subjected to the same vagaries as story boarding and can be frustrating at times. In prephotoshopic times I used clear acetate as I do layers nowaday. Nothing better for a quick fix when the characters and the set have changed in a scene... Et voila.
Incidentally, the scene was eventually played with a mountian lion.
